Ode To My Passport
It’s small and thin and blue. Its pages hold stories of romance, adventures and mishaps.
It provides a glimpse into my past and a blank slate for my future.
It’s filled with warm memories and the anticipation of dreams to come.
It’s the key that opens doors to rich cultures, beautiful landscapes, friendly people, and delicious food.
It’s taken me to places I dreamed of my whole life and places I never dreamed I’d go.
My life has wandered down paths I never would’ve found without it. My passport is my most prized possession. It has changed me and made me the person I am today.

I like this! If only we could get the people in customs to stamp our passports in a neat order, mine has become quite a mess.
November 15, 2010 @ 12:25 AM
I know, right? Conserve space, I plan on filling that thing up!
November 17, 2010 @ 4:13 AM
I agree, we’ve only been to three places so far and I already found they like to put stamps in willy nilly!
November 17, 2010 @ 7:02 AM
Ha! Just think how many you’ll have a year from now!
November 15, 2010 @ 12:11 AM
Ah, a girl’s best friend… the good ole’ passport!
November 15, 2010 @ 12:29 AM
Definitely! And perhaps a good carry-on sized bag!

I have a similar love affair with my passport. In fact, I recently scanned in my passport when we were staying in Berlin and had access to a scanner. I know it sounds silly to do so, but I was thinking how sad I would be if my passport got stollen and all the colorful visas and stamps that represent so many memories and experiences would be gone forever.
November 15, 2010 @ 12:52 PM
I really like that idea! I can look at those stamps & think back to the places I visited. It really would be awful to not have that physical record if it got stolen. Thanks for checking out my blog!

Love it Ali <3

I love the pictures and love this post, it so short & cute!!! Hopefully your passport gets around more in the next few years 😉

Hilarious Jaime! Very few people can get away with saying things like that 🙂 thanks for the compliments!

I knew you’d love it & I knew you’d know I was joking around. I can’t wait for my Passport to get filled with stamps from all over the world!!!

Nice ode! I love my passport too! I had one stolen in Vienna a few years ago and it was though someone had ripped my lungs out. I worked hard to earn those stamps! Great pics too!
November 15, 2010 @ 10:24 PM
Ugh that’s terrible! I think I would have a panic attack if someone stole my passport, especially while traveling overseas. Glad you liked the post, thanks!
November 15, 2010 @ 10:06 PM
I couldn’t agree more. I love my passport! My great-grandparents are who inspired me to go out and see the world. When my great-grandmother passed away, the only possession of hers that I wanted was her passport. Her son claimed it though. I was bummed.
November 15, 2010 @ 10:25 PM
Aw that sucks! Well, you got her love of travel and no one else can claim that from you.
November 16, 2010 @ 8:53 PM
Unfortunately my passport put a restraining order on me… apparently I loved it too much.
November 16, 2010 @ 11:22 PM
I believe that restraining order expires June 2011, correct? 🙂

Love your “Ode to My Passport” – we’re definitely going to fill up those pages, the TSA needs to conserve the empty spaces! When I went to Egypt, they gave me a sticker to put in my passport which I was allowed to place myself. The thing was, the visa entry sticker was the size of the ENTIRE passport page! At this rate, I’ll only be able to visit a handful of countries before I have to order a new one, haha.
November 18, 2010 @ 6:20 PM
Thanks!! I know what you mean, mine is only 2 years old and there are already so many stamps in it, I just know I’m going to have to get more pages added at some point and I’m not looking forward to it.
November 19, 2010 @ 1:15 PM
Love this! When did you go to Antarctica?
November 19, 2010 @ 7:38 PM
Thanks! I went to Antarctica February 2009. It was amazing!

I feel the same about my passport-to the point that before I realized you get the old one back when applying for a renewal, I was going to report it as lost or stolen so that I was guaranteed to keep it!
December 29, 2010 @ 7:11 PM
That’s so funny, I thought the same thing before I renewed mine a few years ago!
